Harden Carter was born on April 27,1930 to Hence and Mary Etta (Eaves) Carter in Montgomery, Alabama. He is the seventh of ten children. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour at age 9, and was baptized. In 1950, he joined the United States Navy and served his country for 4 years. He married Reverlee Goforth in 1954, remaining united in holy matrimony for over 65 years.
Throughout his life, he was active in the church. He continued to be faithful to his commitment through singing and service. He participated as a soloist, in male chorus and choirs and as an ordained deacon. He also participated in convalescent home visitation ministries for over fifty years.
He worked in various occupations throughout his life. His last position being employed as warehouse manager for California State Lanterman Hospital in Pomona, California. He retired in 1992 at age 62.
Harden enjoyed the outdoors and going on adventures. He could be seen on weekends and weekday evenings attending to his yards and gardens, often well into the night. He regularly scheduled and executed vacation adventures including road trips, camping, fishing and sight-seeing across the State of California and the country. He was an avid fresh-water fisherman and a tireless cross-country driver, taking Reverlee and his two boys on each trip.
Later after the boys grew up; initiated by close friends, he and Reverlee gained a fondness for being on the high seas. They took a total of 19 trips to multiple ports of call on every corner of the earth. The like to point out that they have step foot on every state in the Union and every continent on the planet. Yes, including Alaska and Hawaii.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be especially remembered by family and friends for being kind and compassionate.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Reverlee Goforth Carter, 2 sons, Harden Alonzo and Kent Carter and wife Jan; his brothers Lindsay Carter of Roanoke, Alabama and Ben Hale and wife Linda of Waukegan, IL and sister Alfreda Rachel of Cincinatti, OH; cousin, William Carter and wife Emma of Sylmar, CA; grandson, Harden Benjamin Carter and wife Monica of Hyattsville, Maryland and their three toddler daughters, Bellamy, Kaden and Kennedy; granddaughter, Christina Lorin Carter of Phoenix, AZ; Eileen Marie Fykes, the mother of Benjamin and Christina; the Eaves family cousins, and a hosts of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
