I am really upset my dad should not be dead. People that did not want to be bothered with him should have left us alone. I did not care what board and care my dad was at everyday I checked on him. 9 months after I stepped away my dad is dead....

Nequetta - May God give you and your family strength at this trying time.

Sending my love, prayers and deepest condolences to you and your family. Continue to trust God as he will give you peace, comfort and strength… God bless…

I wanted to share these memories and reflections about my father.

Although I was not raised by my dad and did not spend much time with him in my younger years, I was blessed to share his best years, even while he was bedridden. When he first came down here, he was reluctant to let me look out for him. At his first board and care, I spent five to six hours a day getting him set up with his doctors and the VA. He never wanted me to leave, and I made sure to drop in every day to ensure he was properly cared for. Whenever he called—even at 2:00 or 3:00 AM because staff didn't answer his call light—I was always there. The facility knew that if my dad had a problem, I would advocate for him without hesitation, even sending police for wellness checks when necessary. I stayed by his side through countess hospital visits at Harbor UCLA, including right after my own surgery.

My dad was full of life and loved women. Even while sick with COVID, he was flirting with a young nurse, asking her to step outside the door and take off her mask so he could see her face. Another time, I walked into his room at the VA to find twelve doctors and nurses surrounding him while he was unresponsive. I spoke to him, and he started responding—and eventually came home.

I cherished our conversations about his father and his grandfather Joe, and asking him about his life. When I pressed him on topics he didn't want to discuss, he would pretend to forget, and we would laugh. I also remember teasing him when car salesmen kept calling him, asking why he was wasting their time when he couldn't drive.

My great-aunt always told me I was just like him. One day, I noticed myself doing the exact same shoulder shrug he always did. Towards his final days, he called and said, "Quette, I need your hand," asking me to come get him. He knew I would always fight for him. I love spending time with older people—it takes patience, but there is so much to learn, and I hope someone looks out for me the same way one

Praying for your strength and comfort in this chapter of your life. With all my heart please except my condolences. Love always Marlow

To my cousin Quett my condolences are with you and the Jacob family. Be strong and God bless
