Hyo Pai, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cornerstone of our community, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026 at the age of 94. His life was an inspiring testament to the power of resilience, faith, and lifelong service to others.
Born in the rural island of South Korea, Hyo grew up with humble beginnings and a tireless work ethic. Through sheer grit and relentless dedication to his studies, he defied the odds, earning a place at South Korea’s most prestigious university, Seoul National University. His sharp intellect was matched only by his drive to create a broader horizon for his family and community.
Carrying that same bold spirit, he immigrated to the United States and built a thriving career as a successful entrepreneur. Beyond his business ventures, he became a pillar of Koreatown and a dedicated civic leader. Guided by a deep personal faith, he was instrumental in founding and establishing several Korean churches, ensuring that newcomers had a spiritual home and a place of belonging. He opened doors for countless Korean immigrants—offering mentorship, guidance, and practical support to help fellow families find their footing and build their own American dreams.
Yet, for all of his professional achievements and community accolades, Hyo considered his family his greatest life’s work. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Hyun, sharing a partnership rooted in faith, mutual respect, and deep affection. As a father, he led by quiet example, instilling in his children the values of integrity, compassion, and humble generosity. In his later years, nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren grow, showering them with pride, wisdom, and warm encouragement.
His steady presence, generous heart, and legacy of faith and service will endure for generations across the community he helped build.
He is survived by his wife,Hyun; his children, Ben, Nan, and Loy; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Weston, Hannah, Faith, Justin and Jonathan, who will forever carry his memory and values forward.
