Jerilyn "Jeri" Brown

March 15, 1951 – November 27, 2015

Jerilyn (“Jeri”) Jo Brown of Santa Clarita, California lost her long battle with cancer on November 27. She is survived by her loving family: husband Michael Gonzales, son Blair Brown (wife Laura), grandsons Zachary and Luke Brown, brother Bruce Whittemore (wife Marilyn), and nieces Marti and Mandy and Maggie Whittemore.

Jeri was born in Waterloo, Iowa and grew up there. Her parents Earl and Lois Whittemore preceded her in death. Jeri graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. degree in General Science, and she received a diploma from Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Waterloo. She moved to California in 1984. Her general and oncology nursing career spanned 34 years, including employment at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, and for the last four years at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. She was an active participant in nursing professional societies at the national and local levels, and she received numerous special recognition awards over the years.

Jeri loved to travel, and she and Michael enjoyed many wonderful vacations in the US (especially to Maui, her favorite place) and in Europe. Her favorite weekend activities were with family, especially her beloved son and grandsons.

A memorial service and following reception will be held Thursday, December 17th, 1:00 PM at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary in Newhall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the City of Hope at www.cityofhope.org/giving .
