John Gordon Nogle

DECEMBER 8, 1921 - SEPTEMBER 19, 2014

John G. Nogle passed away peacefully in the evening hours on September 19, 2014 at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his family of four generations who loved him dearly.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 1921 and lived in numerous locations around the U.S. until his entertainment family settled into Hollywood and West Los Angeles. He graduated from University High School in 1941 and attended Santa Monica City College. He had hoped to attend USC, but joined the U.S. Coast Guard in December 1941 when the war broke out. He was a radar operator on the U.S.S. Reading until the war ended in 1945.

In 1943, he married his long-time, high school sweetheart, Martha Hawley and they were blessed with 68 years of marriage until her passing in November 2011.

John, following in the footsteps of his father, worked in the Motion Picture Industry. He was an optical cameraman for 55 years at Republic Studios, CFI, opened Universal Title & Optical, Howard Anderson Co and Pacific Title, finally retiring at the age of 79.

John was a caring son, loving brother, devoted husband, dedicated and loving father, honest and integral employee and friend to many. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Nancy O'Neil (Bob), Jane Benchener (Brian), Doug Nogle (Kathy) and Susan Winters (Tim) as well as his sister, Tonya Plante (Ed). John is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jennifer O’Neil and Jeff O'Neil; Jonathan Koltvet and Nicholas Benchener; Brian, Gregory and Bradford Nogle and Kimberly Henzie; and Derrick, Matthew and Lindsay Johnson; and he also leaves a fourth generation with 14 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10am at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary, 23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321.
