Steve Goodman- I didn't know until today of her passing. It's June 8, 2016.  I truly enjoyed Lannie and her kindness. She was smart, positive and cared deeply for her sons and Doug. She always had advice for me that was meaningful and very helpful. She was not a me me me person. She was a you you you person. Truly caring, honest and a mench! Mench is a yiddish word for someone that goes extraordinarily beyond the call of duty for others in the most giving way! I will miss her deeply and know that she is no longer suffering and pray that her boys, Doug and her brother Randy will all find inner peace in knowing that Lannie is in heaven with eternal peace and contentment. As a colleague, I admired how Lannie always presented herself with poise and graciousness.  She was a great example helping my family navigate the challenges of coping with a teenager with Asperger syndrome.  Her sense of humor and practicality helped us over rough patches.  Lannie's passing is a great loss to children with Asperger syndrome, their parents, and especially to the speech-language pathologists who knew and admired her.

As a new speech-language pathologist, I always knew that Lannie and her wisdom was only a phone call away.  She had a sense of self-confidence, style, and flair that I wanted to be able to emulate, but knew I could never match.  Her loss leaves a great void in our speech-language pathology community, one which can never be filled.

Lannie and I met in college and were unseperable during our years of study.  We had so many good times with lots of laughing, crying, and just plain being goofy.  We took a trip to Utah one year and went skiing on every course possible.  On another trip we went to Mammoth and drank a little too much and made snow angels at midnight!!! 
 
We stayed in touch over the years and would meet to catch up.  Both of us would remark how we could return to those two college girls so quickly, from 42 years ago.  When we would catch up we would talk about our families, work related topics, and of course our free time passions.  We were friends through marriages, divorces, births, deaths and could always make each other laugh with those crazy puns!!!  She was the queen of those.
 
Lannie was so proud of her family and always told me about you and her two boys as if I had been there to see all the accomplishiments.  She truly loved you all so much.  I will miss her even though our communication had lessened in recent years.  I will always treasure those late night study groups and running to the grocery store at midnight to get frozen cheesecake and the laughing!!!  Oh, the laughing was contagious.
 
I am sure we all have our special stories that touched our hearts and can go on and on about them.  We all have the special moments with her that will stay in our hearts.........forever.  I am glad she doesn't hurt anymore and know in my heart that she knew she was loved by so many.  She impacted alot of people personnally and professionally, we can all learn alot from her.
 
In preparing for her memorial, I have reflected on our history and wondered what I could do that would be meaningful for her.  I know within the last few years she was REALLY into sailing.  It must have been so peaceful and healing for her.  I contacted a "sailing camp" that occurs on Catalina Island and am donating money towards a tuition for a camper in her name.  The camp completes a sailing course, whereby the camper can get a sailing certificate, among other water sports. The camp is a week long adventure. I think she would have loved it!!!!  I talked to the camp director and even recommended if there was a camper that applied with Asperger's Syndrome that would be the camper to award the funds to.  It wasn't a requirement but it would be the icing on the cake.
 

 
In honor of my long time friend, I will donate in her name every year until I am no longer able to do so.    The Lannie Leglar Memorial Fund.

The Sawyers cannot express the grief that we feel over the loss of Lannie.  Our hearts are broken and we will all miss her tremendously.
