February 28, 1938 – August 3, 2026
Peacefully, at age 88, holding her beloved husband’s hand, at Sage Glendale in Los Angeles.
On August 3, 2026, Lea Soberano Atanque, who was the cherished wife of Tito Atanque Jr. for close to 50 years, entered into eternal peace.
Born on February 28, 1938, in Pavia, Iloilo, the Philippines, Lea was the first of five children—and the only daughter—born to her parents, Resurreccion Soberano and Julita Hismaña.
As part of her nursing studies at Central Philippine University, Lea worked at Iloilo Mission Hospital and Capiz Emmanuel Hospital, where she began to build the foundation of her long and rewarding career.
In 1964, Lea immigrated to Montreal, Canada, and eventually joined the nursing staff at Santa Cabrini Hospital. By 1969, she had moved to Southern California and worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, among other hospitals, before joining Kaiser Permanente Panorama City, where she worked as an OR nurse until her retirement in 1995.
Lea and Tito met in Los Angeles and married on February 10, 1977.
Her life was deeply rooted in her unwavering Christian faith, and Lea cared for others through her work with Christlike compassion, strength, and grace. Outside of work, she was passionate about discovering God’s creation through travel, but her greatest joy was always found in the time she spent surrounded by those she loved.
During her lifetime, Lea served as an anchor for her siblings and their children. Marinette, Cecille, Gilbert, Anna Luz, Rex, Leo Julius, Ian, and Job will forever treasure the memory of their Auntie Nening.
Lea joins her parents; her four younger brothers, Eli, Pio (Josie), Noe (Abilene), and Gil (Arlin); and her dearest Nay Meren in their eternal rest.
She will be sorely missed by the rest of her extended family and dear friends across the Philippines, the United States, and in Montreal.
The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary, Chapel of The Oaks, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, California.
The funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. It will be followed immediately by committal in the Eternal Valley Memorial Park’s Garden of Paradise.
