Lorina changed my life, and she changed the lives of my entire family.

There are some gifts in life that are so extraordinary that words will never truly be enough to express what they mean. Lorina gave me one of those gifts.

Unselfishly, and without being asked, Lorina offered to carry my first child. No one asked her to do it. She offered. She joyfully stepped forward and said, in essence, “I will help you start your family.”

I will never forget that.

At a time when my greatest wish was to become a mother, Lorina opened her heart and gave of herself in a way that very few people ever could. She gave me hope, she gave me a future I desperately wanted, and ultimately, she gave me my child.

Thank you will never be enough.

I remember having a conversation with a therapist during that time, and she told me something that stayed with me. She said that women who become surrogates are particularly giving people. They have an extraordinary capacity to give of themselves for someone else.

I remember thinking, “Yes. That is Lorina.”

Because Lorina didn't just give me her time. She gave me her body, her energy, her love, and a part of her life. She shared this experience with her own family so that mine could begin. She made sacrifices that I could never fully repay, and she did it with such generosity and joy.

That is the kind of person Lorina was.

She was special. She was loving. She was kind. She had a beautiful ability to give without expecting anything in return. She saw someone she loved who needed help, and she simply stepped up.

And because she did, my life was forever changed.

My family exists in the way it does today because of Lorina. There is no way to tell the story of my life without telling the story of her. She is woven into the history of our family in a way that can never be undone.

I will always be grateful to her—not just for what she did, but for the person she was.

I just learned of this heartbreaking news because I recently said, “We must have Lorina on this project before we go any further!”

Lorina’s leadership, guidance, hard work, commitment, and dedication to producing quality work were always delivered with such kindness, care, and efficiency. I learned so much whenever I was in her presence, and she always made the experience enjoyable.

And she brought the laughter—whether we were discussing where to find the best biscuits or navigating complicated financial negotiations. I will especially miss her keen sense of humor, which she brought to even the most complex conference calls and somehow made them a little lighter.

I am so grateful to have known and worked with Lorina. My sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who loved her. She will be deeply missed.

For over 20 years, you were so much more than my best friend—you were a part of my life. From boating and camping, to our Red Hat days, vacations, boat shows, dinners and even surviving a cruise during a hurricane, we shared a lifetime of laughter, adventures, and unforgettable moments.

My heart aches knowing that I won’t see you again. It’s hard to imagine life without you here, but I am so grateful for every memory, every laugh, and every adventure we shared.

I will miss you more than words can ever express. You will always be a part of my life, my memories, and my heart.

My deepest condolences to Tom, Christopher and Kristen, April and Angel, and Mr. and Mrs. Seelig during this heartbreaking time. My heart is with each of you. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing just how deeply Lorina touched the lives of so many people.

I had the privilege of meeting Lorina at Kaiser in 1995. What began as a coworker relationship grew into something so much more meaningful over the years. Lorina eventually became my boss for a time, but most importantly, she became my forever beautiful friend.

Lorina was truly an amazing human being. She possessed a rare kindness, warmth, and generosity that she shared so freely with everyone around her. She had a beautiful way of making people feel seen, valued, supported, and cared for. Her heart was genuine, and the love and compassion she showed others will never be forgotten.

Lorina was a teacher like no other I had ever known. She taught me far more than I could have learned from any classroom or workplace. Through her example, she taught me about kindness, compassion, strength, patience, and generosity. So many of the lessons she gave me will stay in my heart forever.

I will always be grateful that our paths crossed. I cherish the memories we made, the laughter and tears  we shared, the lessons she taught me, and, most of all, the beautiful friendship that grew from that first meeting. Lorina left an imprint on my heart that time can never erase.

She started as my coworker, became my boss, and ultimately became my forever beautiful friend. That is a journey I will always treasure. I will miss her more than words can express, but I will carry her kindness, her wisdom, her laughter, and her beautiful spirit with me always.

Lorina was a gift to all of us who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life mattered, her love mattered, and her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.

May she rest peacefully, and may her beautiful memory forever be a blessing.

Lorina and I first met in 2004 when we were managers in the Underwriting Department in Pasadena. I was new to Kaiser, and we were in the middle of a major change to our rating methodology. It was a challenging time, and we all relied on Lorina’s incredible knowledge and expertise to help us through it. Her kindness, patience, and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on me and so many of our colleagues.

Whenever I learned that Lorina would be leading one of our training sessions, I was genuinely happy. She had a remarkable gift for explaining even the most difficult concepts in a way that made them easy to understand. She was an exceptional teacher, and she shared her knowledge so generously. The Underwriting Department has lost someone who can never truly be replaced, and there is an enormous void left behind.

One of the things I will always remember is how proudly Lorina spoke about her daughter and son. You could see how deeply she loved them. My heart aches for them and for everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rest in peace, dear Lorina. Thank you for all you gave to your colleagues, your friends, and your family. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May God bless your loved ones and give them comfort during this difficult time.

There are people who leave an impression, and then there are those rare individuals who help shape who we become. For me, Lorina was one of those people.

I had the privilege of knowing Lorina for most of my underwriting career after joining Kaiser Underwriting in 1997. No one taught me more. I remember her as an underwriter who helped teach the rest of us how to respond to RFPs and RFRs. She was not only an exceptional professional but also a generous mentor who freely shared her knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Many of the skills, confidence, and successes I have today can be traced back to her influence, including the time I spent working alongside her in Labor & Trust and with UC.

What always amazed me was her ability to make even the most complex challenges look easy. She approached every situation with calm confidence, clarity, and expertise, making those around her feel capable and supported.

What made Lorina truly special was not only what she knew but how she made others feel. She was encouraging, appreciative, and had a remarkable way of making people feel valued. She recognized the contributions of others and never missed an opportunity to express gratitude. That kindness and respect left a lasting impact on me.

Through years of conversations, challenges, successes, and shared experiences, I came to admire not only Lorina's accomplishments but also her character. She led by example with integrity, humility, and genuine care for others.

I am deeply grateful for the years I spent learning from her, working with her, and knowing her as both a mentor and ally. Lorina made a difference in my life and career that cannot be measured, and I will miss her greatly. My heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace.

Some of my favorite memories of Lorina came from the simple conversations we shared. We'd talk about our love for off-roading in Glamis, spending time with family, and appreciating the little moments that make life special. Even though I didn't know Lorina for as long as many of you, she made a lasting impression on me. She had a warmth and positivity that made people feel comfortable, and her smile and genuine kindness were impossible to miss. She had a way of lighting up whenever she talked about her family, her adventures, or the things that brought her joy.

I'll always remember her as someone who embraced life with gratitude, found happiness in the simple things, and shared that joy with those around her. I hope we all continue to carry a little of her spirit with us—taking time to enjoy the moments that matter, cherishing our loved ones, and finding adventure wherever life leads us.

Lorina will be deeply missed, but her kindness, laughter, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. May we honor her by remembering the joy she brought into our lives and by holding those memories close.

I first met Lorina in 2009 when I walked into the Kaiser Burbank office to interview with her and Laura Awazu for an administrative assistant position. I didn’t know it then, but that moment would become the beginning of a beautiful friendship and a lasting connection that I will always cherish. Lorina was the kind of person you could turn to for anything—questions, advice, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. I was fortunate to work alongside her in her office, and when she joined case review calls, she would let me sit in and listen so I could learn. That was Lorina. She had such a generous heart and a true gift for teaching, mentoring, and sharing her knowledge with others. It is hard to say goodbye to someone who was not only a boss, but also a friend, mentor, and steady source of support. I will miss you deeply, Lorina. Thank you for your guidance, your kindness, your wisdom, and for being a sounding board through both work and life. Your impact on me will never be forgotten.

Lorina had a rare gift for leadership. No matter how complex a challenge or strategy was, she had a knack for breaking it down through storytelling. She always had a quick, insightful anecdote ready—one that wouldn't just explain the concept, but make it stick. You walked away from every conversation with her not just knowing what to do, but understanding why it mattered.

I’m going to deeply miss our regular strategy sessions, her sharp wisdom, and simply listening to her share her experiences. She didn't just help me build a career; she shaped how I think, lead, and approach life. Her legacy lives on in everyone fortunate enough to learn from her.

Lorina was an incredible person, and I feel truly blessed to have known her. I had the privilege of working with her at KP for 18.5 years, and her support, partnership, and genuine care for all of us were unwavering. Her positive impact will be felt across the Underwriting department for years to come.

She spoke often and lovingly about her wonderful family, her love of dogs, and her camping adventures. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a generous spirit, and she coached and mentored so many people because of her sincere passion for helping others succeed.
