With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Luz J. de Leon, 91, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on August 20, 2021. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, our dear father and husband of 39 years, Augusto "Ago" de Leon. Born in the Philippines to Cristino and Maria Joaquino, Luz graduated from MLQ University with a Masters degree in Education. For many years, she enjoyed being an elementary school teacher of Filipino until she "retired" and opened a successful canteen and catering business. A devoted Catholic and woman of faith, Luz loved church, traveling, cooking for family and friends, going to the movies, shopping, and was a huge fan of Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Luz was kind, compassionate, generous, and never turned down anyone who asked for help. Above all else, she was a dedicated and doting mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She cherished her role as Mommy and "Lola" (to the grandkids). A sweet lady full of optimism, Luz loved to laugh, made friends everywhere and was well regarded by customers and employees alike.
When Ago passed away in 1993, Luz immigrated to California,USA to be with her kids. She is survived by her 7 children, Lourdes, Leila(Dave), Armando(Mary Elizabeth), Lucila(Kevin), June(Cristina), Laura(Vince) and Lilian(Mark), 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and youngest brother, Joseph Joaquino.
Due to health and safety concerns, the family will hold a private celebration of her life on September 27, 2021 at Eternal Valley in Newhall, California.
