Gentleman, perfectionist, intellect, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, he was all of these things and so much more. Born to Gordy White Jr. and Josephine White on December 2, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA. Manuel was the 2nd of 4 children. He was baptized at an early age at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Pacoima CA., and welcomed Christ into his life. He attended Filmore Elementary, San Fernando Jr. High and San Fernando High School.
Manuel White married Charmaine Newsome on December 10, 1977. From this reunion were Kamilah, Manuel Jr., Arianna, and Aaron.
In 1977 he began his career as a truck driver, which he continued for over 30 years. He worked for Waste Management in 1977 until 1994. He enjoyed his job, was very ambitious and dedicated, so he decided to start his own business called Whites Trucking in 1988, where he continued as an owner operator for the majority of his career. In 2014 he also began working for Green Compass Environment Solutions.
Manuel loved hanging out with his family and friends, watching basketball and football. He enjoyed attending sports events, and family tailgates to the games. He loved vacations, dancing and just being around family. He was very charming and kind. If you ever had a question or problem he would sit and listen. If he didn’t have an answer, he always said I’ll find out and get back with you. He loved to spend lots time with his grandsons, who adore him.
Self described as a “man and a gentleman” and “the greatest” (long before Muhammad Ali), Manuel took pride in his family and his work. He always encouraged our family to stick together with the phrase “all for one and one for all.”
Manuel is survived by his wife Charmaine, (4) children: Kamilah White-Lucas (Francois), Manuel White Jr., (Maria) Arianna and Aaron White, (2) Grandsons: Iasiah and Evan White. Parents: Josephine White and Gordy White. His Siblings: Marlene White (Joseph), Melvina White, Mickey White (Venetia) Michael White (Nancy) and a host of family and friends.
With Gratitude
The White family would like to take this opportunity to thank our family and friends for their hard work, generous expressions and kindness. We could not face this difficult time without your support
