Margarita Maya de Medina

Nuestra querida abuela y madre, Margarita Maya de Medina, falleció el 15 de junio de 2026 a los 79 años en Hayward, California, rodeada del amor de su familia . Nació el 26 de diciembre de 1946 en Toluca, México, hija de Clara González y Nicolás Maya.

Fue una mujer de fe profunda e inquebrantable, trabajadora, virtuosa y alegre – siempre estaba cantando y bailando. Desde muy joven se propuso hacer su propio camino y a ella nunca se le cerraba el mundo, al contrario, ella era bondadosa y siempre daba a manos llenas . Era una cocinera increíble y se aseguraba de que nadie se fuera con el estómago vacío, ya fuera con su famoso mole, sus tamales o cualquier cosa que se les antojara pues le encantaba consentir a sus seres queridos.

Le sobreviven su amado esposo y compañero de vida por 56 años, Gabriel Medina Almanza; sus hijos Edith Canchola, Adriana Medina, Clara Castillo, Gabriela Medina, Juan Manuel Medina, Andrea Paredes y Benjamin Medina, sus 21 nietos y 2 bisnietos.

Nos deja un legado de fortaleza, resilencia, buen ejemplo de amar sin limites y luchar sin limites y de ser felices enfocándonos en nunca perder la fe.

Hasta el último segundo de su vida luchó como una mujer de fe y como toda una guerrera.

Sentimos profundamente la pérdida de nuestra matriarca, pero encontramos paz al saber que ahora descansa tras haber vivido una vida plena y con una gran fortaleza. Les invitamos a celebrar su vida durante el velorio el 16 de julio de 5pm-9pm en Eternal Valley (23287 North Sierra Hwy Newhall, CA 91321); y el 17 de julio para la misa en la iglesia St. Ferdinand a las 11am (1044 Pico St San Fernando, CA 91340), el sepelio a la 1:00 p. m. en Eternal Valley y la recepción a las 3pm en Ride-On (10860 Topanga Canyon Blvd Chatsworth, CA 91311).

Our beautiful grandmother and mother, Margarita Maya de Medina, passed away on June 15, 2026, at the age of 79 in Hayward, California, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on December 26, 1946, in Toluca, Mexico, the daughter of Clara González and Nicolás Maya.

She was a woman of deep and unwavering faith, hardworking, virtuous, and joyful — always singing and dancing. From a very young age, she set out to pave her path and she was someone who never let obstacles defeat her. On the contrary, she cared deeply for her people and always gave with open arms. She was an incredible cook and always made sure no one would leave with an empty stomach, be that with her famous mole or tamales, or whatever you were craving, as she would often pamper her loved ones.

She is survived by her loving husband and life partner of 56 years Gabriel Medina Almanza, her children Edith Canchola, Adriana Medina, Clara Castillo, Gabriela Medina, Juan Manuel Medina, Andrea Paredes, and Benjamin Medina, as well as 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She leaves us with a legacy of strength, resilience, an example of loving without limits, of never giving up and of finding strength in never losing hope.

Until the last second of her life she gave her all as a woman grounded in her faith and like a guerrera.

The loss of our matriarch is deeply felt but we find peace in the fact that she is resting now after living a full life with a strong will to live. Please join us in celebrating her life during her Velorio on July 16 from 5pm-9pm in Eternal Valley (23287 North Sierra Hwy Newhall, CA 91321) and on July 17 for her Mass at St. Ferdinand on July 17 at 11am (1044 Pico St San Fernando, CA 91340), Graveside at 1pm at Eternal Valley, and Reception at 3pm at Ride-On (10860 Topanga Canyon Blvd Chatsworth, CA 91311).
