Mark was born the fifth of ten children in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on April 19, 1929 to Malcolm McHenry and Minnie Louise Rasmussen. His mother and father preceded him in death, as did his six brothers, Robert, Douglas, Gregory, Richard, Arthur, Malcolm, Jr., and two sisters, Mary and Charlotte.
After attending Oshkosh High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served as a corpsman until 1950. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a MP in England until his Honorable Discharge in September, 1953, after the Korean War.
After discharge from the military he moved to Santa Monica, California where he met the love of his life, Sue Ann Blue Carey. They were married on May 18, 1955 in Reno, Nevada and remained faithfully married 54 years, until his beloved wife, Sue Ann, passed away February 22, 2009.
Mark joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on April 9, 1956 and briefly worked patrol at Firestone and Malibu Stations. He also worked several custody facilities, retiring after 29 years with the Sheriff's Department, from Wayside Honor Rancho.
The McHenry's moved to Canyon Country in October 1965 and remained in the Santa Clarita Valley until December 2009. At that time, Mark traveled to Bellevue, Washington to be present at the birth of his first great grand child, Sean William McHenry. Mark became I'll shortly after Sean's birth and remained in Washington, while he recovered. In April 2010, Mark decided to make his home in Redmond, Washington, where he lived quite happily at Fairwinds Retirement Community. He made many new friends and brightened up the community with his love and warm-hearted personality. He was unexpectedly diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor on June 29th and passed away in his sleep August 9th.
Mark is survived by his loving son, Gregory Dean (Kim) McHenry; his grandson, Ryan David (Amy) McHenry; his granddaughter, Hayley Sue McHenry, his great-grandson, Sean William McHenry; his youngest sister, Judy Ann (Leon) Teeter of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; his sister-in-law, Janice (Norman) McMackin of San Diego; his brother-in-law, Archie Johnson of Fort Worth Texas; his former daughter-in-law, Kristin (David) Scott and sons, Trent and Connor, who were lovingly instrumental in his care during the final weeks of his life; and numerous nieces and nephews.
