Mary was born July 13, 1922, in Paso Robles, California to Idus Joseph Smyth and Eva Ruth Lehnoff Smyth. A graduate of Templeton High School in Templeton, CA, Mary made extra money singing and playing a piano in a band. Twice Mary was crowned Miss Paso Robles. In 1940, Mary eloped with Keith Hamilton Center to Las Vegas. Upon Keith’s conversion, they remarried at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wenatchee, WA in 1962. Mary worked for Bank of America for 35 years as an executive assistant. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for 13 years, inspired by her girls’ involvement. Bereft of spouses for many years, Mary and Anthony Joseph Rine met and married at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in 1986. Both Mary and Tony served as a Catholic Eucharistic Ministers in Canoga Park and Vista. In Vista, they became very active with Thousand Trails and traveled in their RV all over the US. Dancing had always been a love for Mary and both her husbands; square dancing or ballroom dancing, it made no difference, they all loved to dance!
Mary is preceded in death by Keith Hamilton Center (husband); Anthony Joseph Rine (husband); Eva Ruth Smyth (mother); Idus Joseph Smyth (father); Patrick Joseph Smyth (brother); Edyth Lorraine Center (mother- in-law); John Gerald Center (father-in-law); Marylin Dusi (cousin); Clara Lehnhoff (aunt); Raymond Smyth, MD (uncle). All were very dear to her.
Mary is survived by Marsha Storme Center (daughter); Sharon Anne Center (daughter) and Kirk Sapa; Rebeca (nee Killebrew) (granddaughter) and Sergio Zavaleta; Debra Maureen Killebrew Tapia (granddaughter) and Marx Tapia. Great-Grandchildren: Chloe Zavaleta, Gage Tapia, Zen Tapia, Demetrius Zavaleta, Erasmus Zavaleta, Oasis Tapia.
Pallbearers will be: Chloe, Gage, Zen, Demetrius, Erasmus, and Oasis.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to: Dr. Trinh, Dr. Ana Rivera, Dr. Black, and Dr. Smith at UCLA, Santa Clarita; Assisted Living Hospice Care, especially: Ana, Natalie, Stephinea, Karoline, Harry, Rosy, and behind-the-scene staff who allowed Mary to leave with love and dignity; and Father Malcom of St Claire’s Catholic Church, who along with Eucharistic Minister, Lourdes, gave Mary much solace with their visits and attention.
