Rosary will be at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Mission San Fernando Rey De España Catholic Church in Mission Hills, California.
Funeral services will be held immediately thereafter, at 10:30 A.M., at Mission San Fernando Rey De España. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
Michael was born in Los Angeles to Humberto and Mary Montagna on October 6, 1934. He was a graduate of Loyola High School and California State University at Los Angeles. Thereafter, he attended Loyola Law School while working full-time during the day as an accountant. He graduated from Loyola Law School in 1960 and received the William Tell Aggeler Award for superior scholarship. He married Constance Marlene Wander on June 30, 1956 in Los Angeles. He worked as a Deputy District Attorney for the County of Los Angeles from 1961 until his retirement in 1997. He rose to Head Deputy District Attorney, and headed the Norwalk, Santa Monica, and Pasadena divisions of the L.A. District Attorney’s office. Additionally, from 1983 to 1988 he headed the Career Criminal Division of the D.A.’s office. After he retired, he represented the State of California for many years in various legal matters including parole hearings.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Connie, his sister Concetta Montagna, his brother Joseph Montagna, and his sister Irene McManus.
Michael is survived by his sister Ann LaGuardia, his brother John Montagna; four children: Gregory Montagna, Sr., Mary Cano, Susan Gei, and Patty Darling; seven grandchildren: Connie Daleo, Michelle Fromm, Gregory Montagna, Jr., Jeffrey Montagna, Maggie Leonard, Madison Darling, and Megan Darling; and five great-grandchildren: Ava Daleo, Claire Daleo, Gregory Montagna, III, Hudson Leonard, and Lily Leonard.
