Milos was born on June 4, 1940 in Milotice in what is now the Czech Republic. He has one younger sister, named Milada, who was a nurse by profession. He grew up in a small village with his parents, Oldrich and Bozena (also known to us as our Babi, which is grandma in Czech). He grew up in a small village and loved animals, dogs especially, and nature. After high school and college, he went on to receive a medical degree in 1967. He met his wife Svata, who was a teacher, at a dance and they were married in July of 1964. Sadly in August of 1968, Russia invaded Czechoslovakia and life drastically changed for most Czech people. Milos was extremely unhappy with the new way of life because of his love of freedom, travel and independence. The following year, the couple made the difficult decision to defect from their country and start a new life somewhere, but ultimately hoping to end up in America. They took a trip with a group of young Czech people to Yugoslavia and Italy, and ended up escaping to a refugee camp in Northern Italy. Their travels took them through Europe to Switzerland and then to Toronto, Canada where they lived for one year. They finally received acceptance to the U.S. when Milos received a medical internship in Virginia at a naval hospital. Their first daughter, Sylvia, was born there in Virginia. Soon after that they moved to Brooklyn, New York, where their second daughter Niki was born. They eventually moved to California and settled there and delighted in the great weather, cultural events and attractions that the area had to offer. The couple was always taking their daughters on trips to amusement parks, visiting many places including Mexico, San Francisco, San Diego and even seeing many of the Olympic events that took place in Los Angeles. Milos is survived by Svata, his two daughters and their spouses, and three grandchildren, Marissa, Johnny and Trevor. His memory will live in our hearts for eternity.
