He is survived by his wife Janet, children Nicholas, Michael, David, and Anne, along with ten of his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Nick was an avid sportsman, participating in baseball, softball, racquetball, ping-pong, skiing, fishing, hiking, and motorcycling at various points along the way. He was a devoted family man, teaching his children how to ski at an early age, coaching sports teams, going to church, and helping with school assignments.
Nick was also a highly successful businessman, having served as President of three major sensor companies in his 50+ year career. A multiple patent holder, Nick received his BSEE degree from the University of Buffalo in 1965 and began his career in sensor and transducer design. The company he founded in 1980, Dytran Instruments, Inc. was the crowning achievement of his business career, employing 170 people when it was sold in 2022. Nick’s children joined him in the business at the early stages and together they created a significant company with a worldwide customer base. Dytran continues to operate with great success in Chatsworth, CA to this day and it serves as a lasting legacy to the drive, determination, and technical know-how that characterized Nick’s life.
A US Army veteran, Nick served from 1954 to 1956 at the end of the Korean war and he remained a patriotic and dedicated American throughout his life. In his later years he and Jan traveled extensively in Europe and America and enjoyed spending time in Hawaii. Nick’s was a fulfilling life, well lived!
He is fondly remembered as “Mr. C” by hundreds of former employees, and while he is sorrowfully missed by his family, his legacy of decency, integrity, and love will live in our hearts forever.
