Paul Joong Ok Kim went home to be with the Lord on June 4, 2026. He is now peacefully in heaven with his beloved wife, Bock Kyu Kim. Born on December 15, 1933, in Gimcheon, South Korea, Paul grew up with eight siblings and lived a life marked by hard work, courage, and devotion to his family.
Early in Paul’s life, he proudly served as a Military Police officer in the South Korean Army before starting a successful furniture manufacturing business. At the age of 45, Paul made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States with his family in pursuit of greater opportunities. Starting over was not easy, but he and his wife worked tirelessly through a variety of small business ventures, including a small café, ice cream trucks, catering trucks in Alaska, a car wash, and a pizza restaurant in Bakersfield, all in order to provide for their children.
Despite his many responsibilities, Paul was a generous man who was always willing to help others. He provided financial support to several of his siblings and a niece pursue university educations. Over the years, he even welcomed exchange students into his home, believing that if he had the opportunity to help, he should do so.
Through all the struggles and transitions, no matter how busy life became, Paul and his wife made church a priority and taught their children to trust God through every challenge. They faithfully planted seeds of faith in their family, teaching by both word and example that God should be the foundation of their lives. The faith they passed down continues to guide their children, grandchildren, and future generations, and remains one of the greatest legacies they leave behind.
Paul was a strong and disciplined father who deeply valued family. He cherished every holiday, birthday, and family gathering and often reminded his children to stay close, support one another, and remain united as a family, even after he and their mother were no longer around.
He also loved golf and traveling to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, and many other destinations. His favorite place, however, was Las Vegas. He absolutely loved playing penny slot machines and always believed the next jackpot might be just around the corner.
Paul is survived by his three sons, three daughters, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His legacy of resilience, faith, generosity, and family unity will live on through them.
