Born on January 26, 1938, to Floyd George Watson and Grace Maureen Watson, Phyllis was the oldest of their three children. She earned her teaching credential and spent 40 years teaching physical education, primarily at James Monroe High School in North Hills, California.
In addition to teaching, Phyllis coached Monroe's drill team for three decades. She choreographed routines, created and sewed the team's tall and short flags, accompanied the team to football games, and fostered strong leadership in her students. Under her direction, the team won multiple competitions.
Outside of work, Phyllis enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, attending musical theater performances, reading mysteries, collecting pigs, and exploring craft fairs for creative inspiration. She was rarely without a craft project in progress (often three at a time) and enjoyed sharing these interests with family and friends.
A longtime resident of Granada Hills, California, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Norlund (1937–2004), and her sister, Kathleen E. Watson (1945–2023).
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Kennelly (Arthur); granddaughter, Samantha Kennelly; brother, Floyd Watson (Pam); nephew, Jason Watson (Kristina); and niece, Allison Watson.
A Committal Service will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321, US, on July 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
