Rachel Lopez Ramirez, loving mother of four and wife of Luis A. Ramirez peacefully passed away at her Granada Hills home on September 9, 2022. Loved ones surrounded her while she went with the Almighty, as she would have wanted.
Rachel was born on October 20, 1943, to Pedro and Maximina Hernandez of San Fernando, California. Rachel often explained that her strength came from her devout Christian upbringing, as she credited her parents for raising her in Christ’s way.
Rachel had six siblings, including three brothers (Arturo, Peter, and Robert) and three sisters (Martha, Angie, and Yolanda). As the eldest surviving child, Rachel often took a lead role, making difficult decisions on behalf of her parents. Her first job came at the tender age of eight. Her sense of hard work carried on as a young adult when she worked two or even three jobs to help provide for her family.
A graduate of San Fernando High School, class of 1961, Rachel aspired to enter the field of social work, driven by her desire to help others in need. In 1965, her career plans shifted when she was blessed with her first child, Leticia. A strong single mother, Rachel cared for her daughter and worked diligently to provide both love and financial responsibility for her little family.
In 1973, Rachel began a relationship with Luis A. Ramirez, whom she had known for some years prior. The courtship turned into love, and the two were married in a double wedding on her birthday in 1973. The marriage produced three boys: Benjamin, Timothy, and Jeremy, all biblically named, as Rachel wished to honor God for her gifts. From her children, a total of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren came to be.
Just over one year ago, Rachel discovered she had cancer. As was her usual manner, she elected to fight without invasive surgery or chemotherapy. The last days of her life would be on her own terms and with God at her side through the difficult journey. Rachel was not judgmental and believed that the weak were the most in need of love and protection. She lived her life as a leader, a mother, a wife, and a wonderful grandmother, as well as a friend to many. Your family and loved ones will never forget you.
A celebration of life service will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park located at 23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91312 on October 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following. Friends and family welcome.
