Ramona Jessie Thomas transitioned peacefully in her home in Castaic, California, on October 22, 2025, at the age of 89. A woman of warmth and quiet strength, Ramona lived each day with intention and purpose.
Born on July 18, 1936, to Addison Benjamin and Marguerite Katherine Carter, Ramona was a native of Los Angeles, California, where she lived with her parents and siblings — Addison B. Carter Jr., Ralph L. Carter, and Robert P. Carter. She graduated from Fremont High School and pursued additional college courses.
Ramona married Hickson Thomas Jr., and their union was blessed with five children. Some years later, she was married to George Washington until his passing.
Ramona’s early career began with McDonnell Douglas. She later chose to become a full-time homemaker and devoted mother before beginning a new chapter as a United States Postal Clerk, where she proudly served for 30 years until her retirement.
After moving to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1997, Ramona devoted herself to volunteer work and community service. Her contributions earned her numerous recognitions and awards, including:
• Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA Campaign (2001) for fundraising efforts
• Certificate of Merit (2002) for participation and achievement in Country Western Line Dance
• Recognition from the City of Santa Clarita Valley for volunteer service
• Certificate of Appreciation (2006) from the Castaic Senior Social Club
• Served as a poll worker and supervisor for several years, contributing to the democratic process with dedication and integrity
In May 2025, Ramona received a special commendation from the 5th District of Los Angeles County for her volunteerism and service with the Senior Program, where she taught line dancing and trained others to teach for more than 15 years. She even brought her own sound system and music — a testament to her dedication and joy in sharing dance with others. She continued volunteering until her health began to decline.
Her other community activities included participation in the Christmas Home Tours and YMCA fundraising campaigns. Beyond line dancing, Ramona enjoyed Tai Chi, chair exercises, and games such as Rummikub and bingo. She also taught arthritis, aquatic, and water aerobics at the YMCA.
A devoted grandmother, Ramona delighted in attending her grandchildren’s sports events and often helped with after-school pickups. She loved to travel and took memorable family cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. She also enjoyed a special vacation to Hawaii.
A faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Castaic, Ramona was truly a woman of God. Her faith guided every aspect of her life. She attended weekly Bible study and was actively involved in church activities — assisting with set-up, fellowship, and flower donations that added beauty and joy to worship services. Her leadership and devotion were further reflected through her service on the Church Board. Her Christian legacy continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ramona Jessie Thomas is now resting peacefully in her heavenly home with her parents, siblings, and the loved ones who went before her.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children —
Cheryl Stevens (George), Addison Thomas, Benita Thomas, John Thomas (Denise), and David Thomas (Tonya); along with five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of beloved relatives, and a wide circle of cherished friends.
Ramona will be remembered for the joy she shared, the lessons she taught, and the deep, unconditional love she gave so freely. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the love she left behind.
