Richard James Walker, born in Inglewood, California on December 12, 1969, died on March 7, 2019 after a sudden and brief illness. He grew up in Los Angeles, where he attended International Children’s School from kindergarten to 8th grade, and the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies from 9th to 12th grade, where he was an accomplished athlete and from which he graduated.
After high school, Richard maintained gainful employment in a variety of fields, where he developed lasting friendships along the way. Highlights include video and television production assistance, delivery services, big rig driving, and aviation services. His final position was Fleet Services Manager for General Atomics in Palmdale, CA.
Richard was described as a dear friend to many – charming, witty and life loving. He was a loyal and enthusiastic fan of USC football and went to many home games. He was committed to providing a supportive environment for his family, and encouraged family unity. He actively supported his children in all their academic and sporting endeavors.
At an early age, he demonstrated a creative personality that was put on full display during his time as an improv performer. He was known to his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Pooty”, and was the fun loving uncle everyone wants to visit.
Richard is survived by his wife, Berenice Walker; his daughters Bre’Ana and Gloria Walker and stepsons Christian and Arthur Acosta; his father, James (and Marianne) Walker; mother, Jayne (and Fredrick) Wallace; sister, Brittany (and Jon Pettigrew) Walker Pettigrew, and many nieces and nephews, including Withelma “T”, Hana and Kai Walker Pettigrew; cousin, Stephanie Stone; aunt, Dee Dee (and Charley) Seek; father and mother in-laws, Rev. Arthur and Gloria Collier; sister-in-law, Asia Collier; brother-in-law Arthur (and Claudia) Collier; stepbrothers, Frederick (and Colleen) Wallace and Pieter (and Kerstin) Wallace); stepsister, Yolinda (and James) Clarkson, and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, California 91321 on Friday, March 15, at 1:00 PM, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, family has requested contributions to Walker Memorial Campaign, which has been established for future educational and developmental endeavors of Richard’s children.
