

Shirley Jean McKee, 93, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 from natural causes. She was born on August 20, 1930 in San Francisco at Saint Francis Hospital. She was raised in Pittsburg, California by her parents, Stella and Herman Miller. Shirley graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1948. On April 22, 1950, Shirley married the love of her life, Joseph McKee. They were married for 54 years before Joe’s passing in 2004.
Shirley was a past Worthy Advisor and Mother Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls and Past President of the Pittsburg Junior’s Women’s League.
Before retiring, Shirley worked as a pre-school aid and clerk for the Martin Luther King Pre-School in Pittsburg, California.
She also served her community of Paso Robles, California, by volunteering in the Paso Robles City Library, and performed marriages as a Volunteer Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages.
Shirley was the mother of four children: Linda and (Richard) Palacios; Bill (deceased) and Gina McKee; Cheryl and (Bruce) Gibson; and Michael McKee.
Shirley and Joe raised their children in Pittsburg and from there settled in Paso Robles, California in 1990 to be closer to the children.
Her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother to nine grandchildren: Trish, Katie, Bonnie, Jenny, Trevor, Ryan (deceased), Loren, Patrick, and Joe. Shirley was fortunate to also enjoy the love of her 12 great-grandchildren: Marisa, Brodie, Natalie, Bodie, Hazel, Gus, Wiley, Dominic, Sean, Antonio, Johanna, and Nathan.
Shirley moved to Santa Clarita to live her final years with her Daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Rich Palacios.
