Those left to cherish his memory are his step son, James Nelson Sherrill III and wife Sharon of Newton; sister, Catherine Hall McClellan of Augusta; grandchildren, James Nelson Sherrill IV and wife Cathryn, Roy Devan Beam and wife Tiffany, Anna Claire Sherrill and husband Gibson Huff.
A private service will be held at a later date.
