Alfild Kristine Marum

Born May 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Kristine Jacobsen Hendricksen and was a resident of Abernethy Laurels and member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton. She lived most of her life in New York and New Jersey and came to North Carolina with her late husband Harald in 1992.

Alfild was a 25 year colon cancer survivor and overcame this and other challenges with quiet grace and determination. Her family, friends and church were the center of her life and she maintained contact on Facebook with family and friends everywhere. She was the devoted wife of Harald for nearly 57 years and was proud of their shared Norwegian-American heritage. She loved crafts and her hands were often busy working on counted cross stitch, knitting or crochet projects. She was ever ready to serve and continued to volunteer until the week before her death.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harald Marum, her brothers John and Karl Allen Hendricksen, and her grandchildren, Brian Fuchs and Heather Kristine Marum.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Lawrence Marum and wife, Elizabeth, of Atlanta, GA; Robert Marum and wife, Lynne, of Cornelius, NC; daughter, Ellen Fuchs and husband, Ronald, of Rockford, IL; sisters-in-law, Pam Hendricksen and Jane Hendricksen of New Jersey; grandchildren, Lindsay Milton and husband, Adam, of Cary, NC, Scott Marum and wife, Bethany, of Charlotte, NC, Sonja Marum of Sonora, CA, Paul Marum of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Hunter, and Stella Milton.

A memorial service is planned for, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., at Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton.
