Also preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Blanche Wheeler Rogers; a brother, Robert Rogers; and a daughter, Cheryl S. Lutz.
Candace is survived by sons, Harold (Mary) Smith II and Paul (Mitzi) Smith; daughters, Candace (Samuel ) Moore, and Judy (Rodney Hooks) Smith; sister Shirley Stratford and brother Bradley Rogers; seven grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Joshua Atwell, Allan Smith, Caleb Smith, Chrystal Pate, Carrie Stanford, Holly Davis, along with eleven great grandchildren; Ian and Jacob Rackley, Alyssa and Cohen Pate, Alexander, Zachary and Eloise Atwell, Taliesin Smith and Michael A. Smith, Chase and Kyra Stanford.
Candace devoted her life’s work to her husband, children and home. She had an early career as a nurse’s aide, and continued service as a Charter Member of the Catawba Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary, working in the gift shop for over 40 years. Candace was an avid, award winning bowler with the Homemakers League at Twin City Lanes in Newton, Pressure Cooker League at Colonial Lanes in Hickory and later with the Sunday Late Nighters at Pin Station in Newton.
A memorial service will be held at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton on Sunday, December 18, at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm-2:45pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catawba Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to Catawba Regional Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
