Caroline B. Bryan, age 97, of Newton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.
Born November 16, 1921 in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Erskine Todd Babb and Nannie Bramlett Babb. She met her husband, George Norman Bryan, Sr. at Presbyterian College. Following college, he joined the Army and went off to World War II. After the war, they lived in Columbia, SC, where their 2 children, Caroline and George were born. They moved to Sanford, NC in 1956. Caroline lost her husband in 1959. She was a school teacher in Sanford and retired in 1994. She and her good friend, Frances (Buchanan) moved to Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville and following Frances’ death, she moved to Abernethy Laurels in 2010 to be closer to her family in Hickory. She blossomed at Abernethy and was delighted to find so many close, dear friends within the community and being able to see her great-grandchildren grow up. Caroline was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Conover, where she sang in the choir. She loved flowers, her friends, and her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Norman Bryan, Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. George Norman Bryan, Jr., and wife, Mary Jo; daughter, Caroline May Gillman-Bryan and husband, Peter Gillman-Bryan; grandchildren, Brandon George Bryan, Todd Joseph Bryan; great-grandchildren, Jackson Cole Bryan and Ella Grace Bryan.
A service to celebrate Caroline’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in The Spirit Place of Abernethy Laurels in Newton with Revs. Susan Roddey and Peggy Stout officiating.
Burial was held Friday, January 11, 2019 in Allendale, SC.
