On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, Patrick Cline left his family and friends behind to get his much needed rest. He had been sick for only a few weeks but the illness quickly became too much for him to bear.
Patrick was born on December 4,1950 in Hickory, NC to Thomas and Revonda Moretz Cline. He was the eldest of five children.
Patrick began working at the age of 13. He always took great pride in taking care of himself and supporting his family. The desire to care for his children was a driving force for him. One of his proudest accomplishments was being nominated by his employer, Meredith Burda, for The NC Bindery Journeyman of the Year award. That honor gave him immense pride because he felt appreciated for having given the job his best.
Patrick loved being a father but the word family took on a whole new meaning when he became "Grandaddy" in 2002. He was at his happiest when his grandchildren were with him. They were his world.
In 2023 Patrick's life was shattered when he unexpectedly lost his son and best friend, Mark Patrick Cline. Mark's passing left Pat with a sense of loss that he couldn't get past and he grieved for his son until his last days.
Carroll Patrick Cline is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Pamela McLaughlin Cline of Newton; daughter Candida Kinsch (Todd) of Hickory; grandchildren, Abigail and Liam Miller, of Charlotte and Morganton respectively. He has two sisters, Donna Cline and Lori McDonald (Mike), both of Hickory. Additionally, he is survived by his brother- in- law, Norris McLaughlin (Nancy) of Forsyth, GA and his much loved "children" Ed Gurley of Newton and Star Williams of Statesville, NC. They instantly became part of his family when they first walked through the door with his children. There are also a number of nieces and nephews living in FL and NC. He always deeply appreciated and cherished his pastor, Marcus Ollis, and all of his church friends at Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton.
Patrick was preceded in death by his son, Mark; parents Thomas and Revonda Cline; brothers William and Ricky Cline; inlaws, Marvin McLaughlin of Claremont and Frieda (McLaughlin) Shook and brother-in- law Daniel McLaughlin, both of Conover.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 25th at 4:00 pm at Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton with receiving from 3:00- 3:45. The family requests that memorials be given to the Beth Eden Lutheran Church memorial fund.
The Cline family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, and support you've given them over the past weeks. Your prayers have kept them strong during the darkest hours.
Condolences may be left at www.willisreynoldsfh.com.
The Cline Family is under the care of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.
