David Wilson Lowrance (80) passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at Abernathy Laurels in Newton, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolynne (Yoakley) Lowrance. He is survived by his three daughters: Katy Anderson (Scott), Annie Hodge (Rick) and Eleanor Raispis (Tom); his two grandchildren Mitchell and Nick Anderson; brother, Morrison Lowrance (LiLo); two nieces, Silvia Earp (Rick) and Jutta Lowrance (Frank).
David was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and was raised in both Newton and Charlotte. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his undergraduate degree at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina. For most of his career he traveled many states as a salesman. He loved taking his daughters with him when he traveled and never failed to incorporate an adventure of some sort along the way.
David had passion for many things, including: geology, nature, history, cooking and fishing. He had a wicked sense of humor and a bone-dry wit – both of which sometimes got him in trouble! He never met a stranger and cherished all of the friends he made throughout his life.
David spent his final years in his hometown of Newton, cavorting with lifelong friends, singing with both his church and Abernethy choirs, enjoying visits with his grandchildren and swapping tales with family and friends.
He spent his last day on this earth sharing Thanksgiving dinner with his family who will miss him dearly. Rest in peace “Leroy”, and don’t forget to turn out the lights. Salud!
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Newton, 701 N. Main Street, Newton, North Carolina 28658.
