Donna Kay Hefner Parker, 77, passed away on August 1 at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a long battle with heart problems. She was born on August 16, 1944 to the late Carl Richard Hefner and Kathryn Louise Smith Hefner in Hickory, NC. Donna worked at Carolina Glove, Carpenter Company, Hickory Springs Manufacturing, and Sew Help Me in Lenoir and Hudson. She was an excellent seamstress and worked from home. She received a two-year Associate Degree from Gaston Community College. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents Tom and Claudia Smith and Earl and Cora Propst Hefner, Brother-in-laws Dean Parker, Ralph Parker, Norris Hallman and Richard Barger, nephews Derrick Ryan Hallman and Chad Parker.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Larry Glenn Parker to whom she was married 51 years. Her sisters Margaret Barger and Frances Hallman of Hickory. Brother-in-law Rev. Joe Parker of Lexington. Sister-in-laws Levon Parker of Newton and Ann Parker of Lexington. Her nieces Whitney Horton, Keely Horton and Amberly Horton, Kristi Barger of Hickory and Beth Parker of Newton and Cynthia Miller of Texas. Her nephews Dwin Barger of Hickory, Kyle Barger of Pennsylvania, and Larry Rogers and Scott Rogers of Newton, Jay Parker of Sweden and Ralph Parker, Jr. of Texas. She is also survived by her furry friends, Mac, BW, and BG.
A Celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 14 at 2:00pm. Rev. Tim Roberts and Rev. David Wyant will officiate.
