

Edward “Ed” James Ormsby, 60, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2016 while on a business trip in El Paso, Texas. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of Cecil Edward Ormsby and the late Clarine “Tink” Ormsby of Huntersville, NC.
He was a graduate of East Mecklenberg High School and East Carolina University. Ed was a Corporate Compliance Manager with CommScope in Hickory and former Production Manager with CommScope in Catawba, NC.
Ed was an active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Hickory, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and usher. He was formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton, NC, where he served on the Finance Committee, FPC Choir and was a board member for their Children’s Morning Out program. He also served as a board member for Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry (ECCCM), in Newton, NC.
Ed’s greatest love was spending time with his loving wife and best friend of 10 years, his family, friends and church. He enjoyed time on Harkers Island, NC, sailing and fishing. Ed also played guitar and had a great love for music.
Those left to cherish Ed’s memory are his loving wife, Tavia Keener Ormsby of the home; father, Cecil Edward Ormsby (Margaret); two daughters Chrystal Ormsby Schanewolf (Jon) of Waxhaw, NC and Miranda Ormsby McGinnis (Tim) of Gastonia, NC; son Michael Ormsby (Jenn) of Gastonia, NC; stepsons Chris Keener (Kelly) of Maiden, NC and Justin Keener (Dana) of Mt. Holly, NC; a brother Dan Ormsby (Sally) of Stanley, NC; brother-in-laws Dwight Gane of Lumberton, NC and Mark Keener (Patti) of Stanley, NC; grandchildren Madalyn and Trey Rikard, Carson Schanewolf, Reese, Harris and Weston McGinnis; one great-granddaughter Scarlette Mello; and step-grandchildren Jacey, Layla and Zac Keener; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Gane of Lumberton, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hickory, NC with Dr. John Compton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
