

Born March 11, 1956 in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Edgar Earl Roberts and Rosalie Rowe Harrell and served as Clinical Director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Substance Abuse Treatment Program, where he was responsible for developing all substance abuse treatment curricula for use in the state’s prisons, jails, substance abuse felony punishment facilities, pre-release and youthful offender programs.
Mr. Roberts was the author of “Addiction and Recovery Education” and co-authored “Turning Point” and “Cognitive Intervention for Substance Abusers”, curricula which have been implemented by state, federal and private prison treatment programs. He served as trainer/consultant for the National Institute of Corrections and taught in the Chemical Dependency Counselor training programs at the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, and other institutions.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, William Roberts of Hickory.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Jim Luck officiating.
The family will receive friends at El Paso Mexican Restaurant, 719 Conover Blvd., W., Conover, NC 28613.
