Elaine Virginia Boyd Boyd Mitchell

Elaine Boyd Mitchell, age 68, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born September 29, 1947 in Beaufort County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Wilmont Boyd and Margie Gurkin Boyd. Elaine was deaf and worked tirelessly to help with projects that were dedicated to helping the deaf community including serving as a house parent in a group home. She was a gracious lady and a loving mother who adored her grandchildren. Elaine was an avid reader who was known for her ever-present smile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Mitchell and brother, Charles Boyd.

Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Jolene Crooks of Hickory; sons, Jonathan Mitchell of Morganton, Jarvis Mitchell and wife, Nicole of Holly Springs, NC; brother, Dwight Boyd and wife, Rose of Belhaven, NC; sisters, Myra McCraney and husband, Bill of Suffolk, VA, Joyce Boyd of PA, Dianne Haddock and husband, Glenn of Greenville, NC, Esther Poe and husband, Joseph of Zuni, VA; grandchildren, Benson, Taylor, McKay, Hunter, Grant, Jackson and Lucas.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Viewmont Community of Hickory, NC with President Mick Berry officiating.

Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery & Memorial Garden in Morganton, NC.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
