George Thomas Smith Sr.

Born August 12, 1929, he was the son of the late Audi Knox Smith and Eva Amelia Hood Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army. George worked at Jones Billiards in Hickory and later became a woodworker in the furniture industry. He was a lifelong member of Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Houser Smith; brothers, Vernon Smith, Carroll Smith, Howard Smith; sister, Pauline Goins.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, George Thomas Smith Jr.; grandson, Michael Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Ayleigh.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Freida Hobson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
