Ivery Artis

Ivery Artis, age 76, peacefully departed this life on September 27, 2017. He was born on July 18, 1941 in Rockingham County to the late Catherine Artis and McKinley Blackstock. He attended Douglass High School in Eden, NC and served his country in the US Navy. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by spouses, Caroline Rattley (mother of his two children), Martha Olverson Artis (22 years) and Thelma S. Artis (5 years).

He leaves to celebrate the memory of his life, his daughter, Terry Artis; son, Ivery Artis Jr.; beloved step-children, Calvin Fountain and wife, Shirley, Mavis Fountain, Mark Fountain, Vernice Scales; step-grandson, Issac Fountain and wife, Fentress; sisters, Anna Hampton, Amanda Clark, Betty Dillard, Robin Rucker; brothers, Bobby Blackstock, Herbert Blackstock, Hubert Blackstock, Lockwood Blackstock; aunt, Rosetta Hampton; 13 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Gilbert McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Park Cemetery in Conover, NC with military rites by American Legion Post #48.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday prior to the service.
