

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Little Hendricks, 96 from Newton, NC passed away on Friday, February 14th 2025 at Hospice House-Sherrills Ford. Jackie was born on March 24, 1928 to the late Carroll and Lorine Little. She grew up on a farm on Highway 10 East of Newton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her in-laws, Carl and Gertie Hendricks, her husband of 50 years, C. T. Hendricks, Jr., eldest daughter Angela Hendricks Phillips, granddaughter Laura Huffman and great-granddaughter, Taylor Huffman.
Family left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Nancy Hendricks Holcomb, and Melissa Hendricks Wike (Rodney), of Newton, granddaughters, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Logan (Brett), of Charlotte, Kathryn Phillips Worrell (Michael) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Sarah Wike Bensley (Eddie} of Denver, NC and Anna Wike Cope (Wesley) of Newton and grandson, Dr. Allen Hager, Jr. (Karen) of Randleman. Great-grandchildren, Rachel Logan and Jacob Logan, Evan Hager (Reilly), Ava Quinn Worrell, and Dean Bensley. She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Meg) Hathaway of Florida and best friend, Amy Campbell as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jackie was baptised at St. James Lutheran where she remained a member until marriage, after which she joined Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Newton in 1947. There she directed the children’s choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and sang in the adult choir (60+years). She served on the Consistory and was a president of the Women's Guild, chair of the Worship and Music Committee, and chair of the Christian Education Committee. Over the years, she sang many solos for weddings and funerals. Jackie was a Christian who truly lived out her faith.
Jackie graduated Valedictorian of Balls Creek High School in 1947 and attended UNC-Greensboro for 2 years before transferring to Lenoir Rhyne University studying Early Childhood Education. She completed her Master’s at Appalachian State Teachers College ( Appalachian University).
She taught 3rd and 4th grades at Sweetwater Elementary, St Stephen’s Elementary and South Newton Elementary where she retired in 1993 after 31 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers, National Association of Educators and sang in the Catawba Valley Community Chorus.
Jackie was an avid walker especially with her friend Amy and loved visiting the homebound members and friends of her church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Terra Bella of Newton for their love and caring of Jackie for over two years, Carolina Caring, and Telicia Hefner and Candy Hoke, beauticians who pampered her. In addition the family would like to especially thank Pam Revis, her friend and caregiver.
“Mamaw” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren established traditions like family dinners and spent much time with them in the summer. Each of her grandchildren has a special relationship with her having spent countless hours at her house on 6th Street. They could be seen riding bicycles, walking, playing hide and seek, going to the library, sledding, baking treats, visiting H&W Drug and friends and family after school.
The memorial service will be held at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, 117 East J Street, Newton on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 4pm. Pastor Ryan Brakemeyer will officiate. The receiving will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Reformed Deacon’s Fund or to Carolina Caring.
The Hendricks family has entrusted her funeral arrangement to Willis Reynolds Funeral and Cremation.
