

James Lewis Sigmon, Sr. age 102, of Newton, NC died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born August 3, 1915 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Henry Phillip Sigmon and Ida Belle Barringer Sigmon.
Lewis was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton where he had served in numerous leadership positions. He was considered a master craftsman and had worked in the furniture industry for over 45 years. Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gladys Whitener Sigmon in 2009, and infant son (twin of Stephen), and also five sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include sons, James Lewis Sigmon, Jr. and wife, Sondra of Davidson, NC, Stephen Douglas Sigmon and wife, Rosemary of Winston-Salem, NC, Henry Whitener Sigmon and wife, Kathy of Clemmons, NC; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton with Rev. Ralph A. Abernethy, III, officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 PM on Saturday.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
