Born October 5, 1925 in Martinsville, IL, he was the son of the late Golden Cola Cunningham and Lula Secrest Cunningham.
Joe was a WWII US Navy veteran, having served on the USS Sandoval in the Pacific. He was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (2 stars) and the WWII Victory Medal.
Joe retired from Stearns Roger in Denver, CO.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Coons Cunningham; brother, Ward Cunningham; and sisters, Beth McGowan and Rogene Frezza.
He is survived by his son, Scott David Cunningham, of Englewood, CO; and his daughter, Julie Brown, and husband, David, of Conover. NC.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018 in the Spirit Place of Abernethy Laurels in Newton, with Reverend Jerry Andersan and Chaplain Susan Roddey officiating.
A graveside service was held at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, IL.
