Dr. John Montgomery Bauer, MD, age 63, of Newton, NC, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born May 25, 1949, in Canton, OH, he was the son of the late Alfred Giesland Bauer and Lelia Dean Frazier Bauer.
John attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH, and received his BS in pre-medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and his MD from LSU Medical School, also in New Orleans, LA. He then did his residency in pathology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. John loved animals and nature, enjoyed playing the piano, banjo, trumpet, and accordion, and listening to old European music. He also enjoyed restoring old, pre-war Packard automobiles and had a passion for architecture and history. John was a member of many medical organizations.
John will be fondly remembered by all of those he so generously helped in his lifetime, both people and animals. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Victoria Conti Bauer and his sister, Marguerite Marie Bauer of Olympia, WA.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 726 1st Ave. NW, in Hickory, NC, with the Reverend Karla Woggon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 PM on Saturday.
