Margie C. Powell

Born July 8, 1925, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Coyte Donald Carpenter and Catherine Estelle Hefner Carpenter.

Margie was a 1942 graduate of Oxford High School where she earned the honor of valedictorian of her class. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton, where she was a former choir member and member of the ladies circle. She was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont.

She was a cub scout and brownie leader and loved playing bridge.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 69 years, Charles Robert “Bob” Powell, of the home; sons, Charles Robert “Rob” Powell and wife, Linda of Catawba, NC, William D. “Bill” Powell and wife, Dawn of Newton, NC; daughter, Cathy R. Powell and partner, Janie Lee of Las Vegas, NV; and grandson, William D. “Will” Powell, II of Newton, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, November 14, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Dr. David Greene and Rev. Lara Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
