Cherie Michelle McDowell Turney, age 53, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born December 1, 1962, she was the daughter of the late William Norwood McDowell and Peggy Ann Hicks McDowell.
Cherie was a Registered Nurse and spent several years as Fund Raiser coordinator for the March of Dimes Campaign at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was also a volunteer for the children’s reading program and a classroom volunteer for many years at Startown Elementary School, where she served as vice-president of PTO.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 22 years, Michael Turney; son, John Turney and brother, Michael Norwood McDowell and wife, Tracey.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton with Rev. Joel Frye officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 prior to the service.
