
Richard “Dick” Henry Wyatt, age 76, of Newton, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his residence. Born March 7, 1937, in Clarksville, TN, he was the son of the late Lucian Henry and Francis Moore Wyatt. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton. He graduated from The University of Tennessee and had a Master’s degree from Texas Tech. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty-one years. After retirement, he worked as an engineer for Gaston County and Catawba County. He was a former member of the Catawba Valley Rotary Club, and enjoyed volunteering for Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and ECCCM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Sidney Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Harriett Short Wyatt; sons, Richard Henry Wyatt, II and Janice Collins of Raleigh, Jeffrey Kennon Wyatt and wife, Jennifer of Newton, and Wesley Short Wyatt of Asheville; grandson, Nicholas Taylor Wyatt of Raleigh; sisters, Louise Johnson of Clarksville, TN, and Susan O’Neal and husband, Art of Olympia, WA; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Turney and husband, Ed of Louisville, KY, and Cheryl Pollard and husband, Larry of Salem, SC.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Dr. David Greene and Rev. Lara Greene officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. in the Gomedela Room.
