Born October 17, 1949 in Catawba County, he was the son of Virgil Guy Martin of Hickory and the late Vivian Ogle Martin.
A graduate of Hickory High School, Wingate Junior College and Appalachian State University, Roger is known to many for his enthusiastic research in compiling high school sports records.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rebekah “Becky” Sigmon Martin; father, Virgil Guy Martin of Hickory; sister, Penny G. Martin of Myrtle Beach, SC; and extended family.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home with Pastor Marcus Ollis officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery in Newton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
