Stephen Wayne Townsend

Born July 26, 1943 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Pearlie Edward Townsend and Mildred Irene Greenhill Townsend and was retired from Resource Electronics and O’Rourke Electronics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Oldaker.

Steve was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Startown and was Vice President of Auxiliary at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Steve enjoyed his volunteer work at the hospital and loved interacting with people.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family will miss him dearly.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Glenda Huffman Townsend; son, Bryon Townsend and wife, Tina of Newton; daughter, Angela Townsend Aldridge and husband, Will of Gastonia; brothers, Kenneth Townsend and wife, Peggy of Hickory, Jerry Townsend of Hickory, Lonnie Townsend of Hickory; sisters, Patsy Carver of Hickory, Regina Penley of Hickory; four grandchildren, Stephen Aldridge, Allison Aldridge, Hunter Townsend, Tanner Townsend and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Startown, with Rev. Ralph Kraft officiating and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45 at the church.
