OBITUARY

William David Cable Jr.

December 2, 2005January 5, 2021

William David Cable, Jr, 15, of Hickory, died Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Born in Catawba County, he was the son of Amy Fernald Cable and William David Cable Sr and brother to Holly Cable and Hope Cable. William was a member of Discovery Church in Newton and a 9th grader at Challenger Early College High School. He had a close knit family and loved his grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and extended family (it didn’t matter if you were blood or not). He is remembered well and loved by all of them.

He was everything you would want in a son, brother, friend, cousin, teammate, and person.

William was a fun-loving kid that was good at everything he put his hand, and mind, to do - whether it was athletics, academics, laughing, pranking, or just living. That boy loved to fish (it was all about Big Fish!) - nothing made him happier than being around any kind of water that had fish in it and getting to catch them with family and friends. He loved playing basketball, playing cards and he was a mean ping pong player. He was loved by many and cared deeply about his family and his friends. He was vested and “all-in” in his relationships with people. William could get along with just about anyone and people liked to be around William. He loved to eat good food - and a lot of it! He couldn’t get enough of big steaks, quesadillas, pizza, and Chick-Fil-A. Ice cream and butter vanished around him...

While he will always be remembered for his smile and love of life, the most important thing is William was a child of God. He gave his life to Christ and we take great hope in knowing exactly where he is. We are thankful William was loved by many. He was a wonderful person. We look forward to the day we will be reunited with Jesus and all of our loved ones in Heaven.

An outdoor celebration of life will be held at Discovery Church on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Please bring a mask and dress warmly - blankets are recommended. The church address is 2201 Startown Rd, Newton, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Discovery Student Ministries - William Cable Jr. Fund (2201 Startown Rd, Newton, NC 28658) or Bible Study Fellowship International (19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78268-4019). William attended BSF in Hickory for 13 years and loved being a member of Discovery Youth.

Since the 4th grade, I was blessed to share almost every class with William. We've gone through online classes, school musicals, leading school events, and being the 'rulers' of elementary school together. Although sometimes quiet, he could make a dull moment into an exciting one. I remember those times when Will would pop a joke in class and everyone would laugh, or the times he was so happy his face would turn red. I especially miss the moments this year when we would look at each other during class when something funny would happen.

Even though many have said it, I will say it again: William was like a brother to me. I am very thankful that he was in my life. He will be missed but never forgotten.

It is hard to pick just one memory but if I had to pick one of my favorites it would be one that occurred in June of last year. Holly had invited me over to the house to eat dinner one night. Tessa was invited as well. As we waited for dinner we did various activities including a Super Smash Bros tournament on the Nintendo Switch. I remember playing as Mr. Game and Watch and getting absolutely destroyed by William and Holly who teamed up to beat Tessa and I. Following that game we went outside to play basketball. I played basketball for Challenger Early College and on that team we lost a lot of games. As a High School basketball team we had been beat before by almost 70 points. Despite all of this I had never suffered a more humiliating defeat then I did that day at the hands of William. I am 6 foot 3 and there was not a doubt in my mind I would beat little ol William. Man was I wrong. After we had eat that night William asked me if he could drive my Toyota Prius. I obviously said no granted he was only 14 at the time but between you and me he may have drove it around the neighbor hood for a little bit. Holly and Tessa joined us shortly after that and I'll never forget when the four of us drove around the development at Holly's house for almost 45 minutes playing songs like Bohemian Rhapsody as loud as my car would play it.

William was a great kid and he meant a lot to me. We talked everyday. At one point we had a 465 day streak on snapchat (before he forgot to snap me one day). I had a private story on Snapchat where I would post daily memes and I can promise you that over half of those memes came from William. He loved to send me memes to make me laugh and I loved to return the favor. He was always talking to me asking if I would take him up to Boone so that way we could go trout fishing in the streams by my apartment. One of my biggest regrets will be that we never got to go.

I love you all

Sincerely,

Chanler J. Watts

Bill, Amy,Holly & Hope
You have lost a son and brother and we have lost a grandson who we loved very much. We share your loss and grief and know he is in heaven with our son George. Vickey and I helped to raise William from Birth to now and have watched him develop into a fine young man. We will always remember him for his compassion, sweetness, and love of life. He was loved by all those whose life he touched. We are blessed that he was a part of our lives
