Bernard “Barney” Francis Walker, age 93, of Crandon Lakes, NJ, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ from complications of COVID-19. He was born in Hoboken, NJ to James and Theresa (Offinger) Walker.
Barney attended St. Michael’s High School in Union City, NJ, where he was on the football and track teams. He enlisted in the Army in 1945 and is a veteran of the Second World War, where he served in the Pacific. He spent his career working for AT&T telephone entities. Upon retirement, Barney lived in Crandon Lakes, NJ and Largo, FL. He enjoyed hunting and shooting and traveled extensively during his retirement with his long-term partner, Ingke Schniedewind. He was a member of numerous clubs over the course of his life, including multiple fife and drum corps, Jersey City Police Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers of America, New York Schutzen Corps, Fritz Reuter Altenheim Board of Directors, and Captain C Muller Rifle & Pistol Club. He also was a Certified Firearms Instructor and NJ Hunter Safety Instructor.
Bernard Walker was predeceased by his daughter, Bernice. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Christopher) Brown, his son, Bernard Walker, Jr., his long-term partner, Ingke Schniedewind, his grandchildren, (Kevin (Danielle), Ashley, Courtney, and Michael (Elizabeth) Brown), and his six great-grandchildren.
