Betty was born in Frelinghuysen Township, NJ to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Pettit) Westbrook, later moving to Fredon Township where she grew up on the family farm. She earned her LPN License from Essex County Vocational School and worked as a nurse for Newton Hospital for 46 years. She was also a school bus driver for Fredon Elementary School and Kittatinny High School for 20 years. She was an active member of the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, a Church Elder, and belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. Betty was also a member of numerous Senior Groups.
After surviving a triple bypass in April of 2003, she felt she was given a second chance in life and lived her life to the fullest. Betty loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many friends. She loved gardening flowers and vegetables, enjoyed sitting on her back deck looking out over the farm, and looking at the many photos she had taken of the family. She enjoyed helping people and was known for making the best chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her children, Walter Orcutt (Robin) of Blairstown, NJ, John Orcutt (Chris) of Beaufort SC, JoAnn Romano (Ray) of Mt. Bethel, PA, Sandy Casterline (Todd) of Hampton Twp, NJ and Donna Zilberfarb of Frelinghuysen Twp, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Britni, Ashley, Trevor, Kylie, Andrew, Justin, Michael, Holly, Zachary, Joshua, Conner, Carlie, Allison, Jason and Ryan; Her great-grandchildren, Mazie, Juniper, Dax, Ashtin, Nova, Emmett, Madeline, Hayes, Avery, Layla, Christian, Cameron, Cecilia, Calliope, Brian, Arietta, Brantley, Jackson, Asher, Blake and Tess. Betty is also survived by her two brothers; Amos Westbrook and Henry “Buck” Westbrook (Grace); and her stepdaughter, Brenda Scales (Jim); As well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty is predeceased by her grandson, Cory Casterline; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Westbrook; and her companion of over 30 years, Daniel Hall.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Smith McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ 07860 from 3pm to 7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, 1 Yellow Frame Rd, Fredon, NJ 07860 on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11 am. Burial to follow in the Yellow Frame Cemetery. A repass will be held at 12:30pm at the church.
