Celine M. Allen, 82, was born on March 19, 1944, in Caracas, Venezuela, and passed away on October 8, 2026. She moved to New York at a young age, lived many years in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, and since 1989 made her home in the Panther Valley section of Allamuchy Township, New Jersey. Throughout her life, Celine carried herself with a quiet thoughtfulness, a steady compassion for others, and an inquisitive mind that never stopped reaching for what lay beyond the familiar.
Celine’s love of learning shaped her path from the beginning. She completed her undergraduate degree at Marymount College and later attended Columbia University, where she was studying for her Ph.D. in Japanese History—an endeavor that reflected both her intellectual rigor and her enduring curiosity. That same attentive, searching spirit appeared again and again in the way she approached the world: with care, with questions, and with a deep respect for knowledge.
For most of her life, Celine worked as a freelance writer, editor, and layout artist—roles that suited her precision, her sensitivity to meaning, and her ability to see both the details and the whole. Prior to marriage, Celine was a Carmelite Nun and taught Elementary School in the Bronx, offering her time and presence in service to others.
In 1987, Celine married her late husband, Dr. Kenneth Gold, whom she met on an expedition to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and Machu Picchu, Peru where she expected to quench her thirst for knowledge and found so much more on that one trip. Celine and Ken shared 30 beautiful years together prior to his passing in 2008.
After Ken’s passing, she returned to school once more attending Warren County Community College and earning her nursing degree, becoming a volunteer nurse at the age of 67—an extraordinary expression of her compassion, her resolve, and her belief that it is never too late to be of use.
Celine was a lifelong learner with a hunger for knowledge—someone who would pursue fields she didn’t know much about simply because she wanted to know more. She was multilingual, speaking English, Spanish, French, and Japanese, and was well acquainted with many other languages, even editing a book written in German. She was well traveled, but disliked being away from home —a contradiction that somehow fit her perfectly: drawn to the wider world by curiosity, yet always happiest when life was grounded in what mattered most.
Her faith and community were also important parts of her life. She was a former member of Good Shepherd R.C. Church in Andover Borough and also attended Christ Episcopal Church in Newton.
Celine was predeceased by her father, Bertrand Allen; her mother, Doris (Font) Allen; her brother, Bertrand Allen, Jr.; her stepdaughter, Dana Sherman; and her beloved husband, Dr. Kenneth Gold. She is survived by her stepson, Brian Gold (Jose Bocanegra); stepdaughters, Wendy Gold Rossi (Jim Rossi) and Karen James; niece, Amanda Allen; nephews, Elliot Allen (Jessica Allen) and Theodore Allen; great-niece, Hazel Jean; cousins, Marili and Antonio Mora; and Kenneth’s grandchildren, Sara, Jordan, Nicole, Tyler, Julia, and Jonathan.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepherd R. C. Church, 48 Tranquility Rd, Andover Boro, NJ on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11 AM.
A Graveside Service will be held at Pequest Union Cemetery, 36 Cemetery Rd, Great Meadows, NJ, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
Celine’s life was defined not by loud declarations, but by the steady, luminous ways she showed up: with thoughtfulness, with compassion, and with an inquisitive spirit that kept unfolding to the very end. Her memory remains a blessing—uplifting, enduring, and deeply loved.
Above all else, Celine loved her husband the most, and that devotion remained the clearest throughline of her life. In her own words: “I’m happy now, I’m with Ken.” In that simple sentence lives both the tenderness of her heart and the peace she longed for.
