Daniel “Dan McLinden”, age 72, of Hardyston Group Home passed away this morning at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice after a short, but valiantly fought battle with cancer. Dan was one of six children born to Daniel J. and Alice Galiberte McLinden and was born in Fall River, MA. Dan moved to Hardyston Group Home in 1993 after living in a developmental center as a young man, and in skilled developmental homes and sponsor homes. Dan had many interests including superheroes and trains but was probably best known for his love of Elvis Presley. Dan had the opportunity to visit Graceland with a SCARC staff in 2009 which was a highlight of his life. He was an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia and enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets to find treasures. Dan was an introverted person who formed strong attachments with the wonderful staff at both his group home and his day Program, Heritage Foods in Hamburg. Dan loved to eat out and to see action movies in the theater. Dan was able to make a happy life at the Hardyston Group Home and the support of his long-time staff helped to have enriching experiences like train trips, travel to West Point and visits to local parks. SCARC Guardianship Services had been Dan’s guardian for the last decade of his life and we were honored to have helped Dan. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his shy smile and his great loyalty to those people who earned his trust. Dan will be buried at the Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick, NJ. Memorial donations can be made in Dan's name to SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc. at 11 U.S. Route 206, Suite 100, Augusta, NJ 07822 or via the SCARC Foundation website - www.scarcfoundation.org
