Daniel was born August 4, 1930 at All Souls Hospital in Morristown to the late Mary T. (O’Connell) and Daniel J. Murphy, Sr. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Newton American Legion Post 86 and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 63, Kenville. Daniel was the Vice President of Transportation for Welsh Farms in Long Valley for more than 30 years.
Daniel was a member of Infragard Newark FBI Chapter, Sussex Count Amateur Radio Club and ARRL in Newington, CT. He was also a past-member of Morris Radio Club. Daniel served as the Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator for both Andover Township and Andover Borough. He also assisted with communications for Sussex Co. OEM for many years. Daniel was also an animal lover and enjoyed watching the wildlife around his home.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was also predeceased by the love of his life, Luella Murphy in 2016; his sister, Madeline Chamberlain; his brother, Bernard Murphy; and his companion dog, Misty. He is survived by five children, Maurya Hawley and husband, Harold, Cindy SanPhillip and husband, Frank, Donna Van Haste and husband, Rick, Regina Sisco and husband, Kurt, and Daniel J. Murphy III; six grandchildren, Heather Miller, Harold Hawley III, Adam Hawley, Rick J. Van Haste, Kory Davis, and Kristoffer Van Haste; twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Ann France; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friends, George and Loretta Plock.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Good Shepherd R.C. Church, 48 Tranquility Rd, Andover Boro, NJ 07821, interment will follow in Holy Rood Cemetery, 61 Whippany Rd, Morristown. Masks are required for the visitation and mass.
