Dorothy Irene Bosi

Dorothy was born in Newark, NJ to the late, Francis and Madeline Mulligan. She graduated from Westside High School in Newark in 1951, where she served as a drum majorette. That same year, on July 28, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles L. Bosi Jr. Together, they shared 51 years of marriage.

In 1957, Dorothy and Charles moved from Newark to Newton, where she made her home for 64 years. In 2021, she moved to Deptford, where she lived with her daughter Donna until her passing.

Dorothy devoted much of her life to serving her family, her community, and her church. She was active as an Andover Township PTA president, classroom mother, and Girl Scout leader. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women of Sussex County and the Red Hat Society of Andover Township, where she served as Queen Mother.

Her faith was an important part of her life. At St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Newton, Dorothy served as a Trustee Emeritus and participated in Martha's Ministry, the Legion of Mary, and the finance committee. She also served as a eucharistic minister, lector, and choir member. At Newton Medical Center, she continued her service as a eucharistic minister.

Dorothy also enjoyed a long and accomplished professional career. She worked for 30 years at the Newton Trust Company before retiring in 1998. Beginning as an entry-level switchboard operator, she advanced through positions as head teller and branch manager before becoming a Vice President.

Those who knew Dorothy will remember her as beautiful, happy, and bright, with an extraordinary love for her family and friends. She would do anything for the people she loved. Dorothy loved life and lived it to the fullest, bringing smiles and laughter to all who knew her. For Dorothy, the glass was always half full. Her family and friends will carry her memory in their hearts and take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Karen Orvetz, Donna Bosi and Annemarie Bosi; her grandchildren, Caitlin Christensen (Joseph), Celeste Gonserkevis (Jason), and James Crane (Amy); her great-grandchildren, Callan Gonserkevis and Maeve Crane; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles L. Bosi Jr.; her son, Charles W. Bosi; her sisters, Nancy Nieuytzek and Diane Swank; her brothers, Robert Mulligan and Richard Mulligan; her son-in-law, Gregory Orvetz and her daughter-in-law, Penelope Keller Bosi.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 AM on September 26, 2026, at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 24 Halsted St, Newton, NJ. Interment to follow at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery, 123 Richardson Ave, Shohola, PA.
